Afghans say mixed-sex party ended in killings by fundamental Islamist group

LAST UPDATED AT 11:45 ON Mon 27 Aug 2012

FIFTEEN men and two women found beheaded in Helmand province, Afghanistan, were executed by the Taliban as punishment for attending a mixed-sex party with music and dancing.

The bodies were discovered this morning near where the had been held on Sunday night, district governor Nimatullah, who goes by one name, told the Reuters news agency. The governor of Helmand, Daud Ahmadi, said a team had been sent to the site of the beheadings to investigate.

Mixed-sex parties are unusual in Afghanistan and usually held in secret. Men and women do not normally mix with each other, claimed the agency, unless they are related or married.

During the fundamentalist group’s five years in power before it was ousted by the US in 2002, women lost the right to vote, to do many paid jobs or to leave home without a male relative or husband to accompany them.

In June this year, the Taliban stormed a lakeside hotel near Kabul which they said was used for “wild parties”, demanding to know where the “pimps and prostitutes” were. They killed 20 people, says Reuters.

Anders Behring Breivik

In Uncategorized on August 9, 2011 at 07:03

Anders Behring Breivik is a Norwegian right-wing extremist and the confessed perpetrator of dual terrorist attacks in Norway on 22 July 2011: the bombing of government buildings in Oslo that resulted in 8 deaths, and the mass shooting at a camp of the Workers’ Youth League (AUF) of the Labour Party on the island of Utøya where he killed 69 people, mostly teenagers.

Breivik’s far-rightmilitant ideology is described in a compendium of texts, titled 2083 – A European Declaration of Independence. In it he lays out his xenophobic worldview, which includes support for varying degrees of cultural conservatism, right-wing populism, ultranationalism, Islamophobia, far-right Zionism and Serbian paramilitarism. It regards Islam and “cultural Marxism” as the enemy, and argues for the violent annihilation of “Eurabia” and multiculturalism, to preserve a Christian Europe. A video Breivik released before the attack, has been described as promoting violence towards Muslims and Marxists who reside in Europe.

Breivik has confessed to what he calls “atrocious but necessary” actions, but denies criminal responsibility

Breivik described himself as a Christian. Breivik listed Freemasonry as one of his interests. Breivik has identified himself as an admirer of, among others Serbian paramilitarism, the Freedom Party of Austria,Hindu nationalism (Hindutva), the right-wing Swiss People’s Party,Winston Churchill,Max Manus,Robert Spencer, former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso,Patrick Buchanan,Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and Dutch politician Geert Wilders. He also endorsed the writings of Australian historian Keith Windschuttle in the manifesto 2083, as well as former Australian Prime Minister John Howard and Treasurer Peter Costello. He expressed admiration for historical military leaders such as Charles Martel, Richard Lionheart, El Cid, Vlad III the Impaler, Jacques de Molay, Nicholas I of Russia, and John III Sobieski.
